Call for Participants

Call for participants to three-day workshop

Under the Researcher Links scheme, offered within the Newton Fund, the British Council and Tubitak Arbis will be holding a workshop on the above theme in Glasgow, UK on 13-15 September, 2017.

Gender-based violence is important because globally 35% of women have experienced physical, psychological or sexual violence against them. Refugees are especially vulnerable due to increased risk of victimisation. Turkey hosts more Syrian refugees than any other country, currently 2.7 million, and 77% are women and children under 17. This makes Turkey an ideal partner for this event.

The workshop will aim to encourage collaboration between UK and Turkish participants on future grant proposals and publications based around the theme. It will also strive to contribute to participants’ professional development and build capacity through the creation and maintenance of an international network of researchers in academia, NGOs, and governmental organisations in the two countries. During the workshops early career researchers will have the opportunity to present their research and discuss this with established researchers from the UK and Turkey. There will be a focus on building links for future collaborations and participants are selected on the basis of their research potential and ability to build longer term links.

The workshop is coordinated by University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK and Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey, and will have contributions from other leading institutions.

We are now inviting early career researchers from the UK or Turkey to apply to attend this workshop. All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the Newton Researcher Links programme.

The application form, with more details on the initiative, is attached and should be sent to:
